Welcome to Citsumaquat.com! Web home to Don's new, edible, cold hardy citrus, the Citsumaquat™.

What is a Citsumaquat? It's a trigeneric hybrid consisting of a 'Nagami' kumquat (Fortunella margarita) crossed with the bigeneric citrandarin (Citrus reticulata 'Satsuma' X Poncirus trifoliata) creating an unique f1 citrandarinquat [Fortunella margarita X (Citrus reticulata 'Satsuma' X Poncirus trifoliata)]. Since the 'Satsuma' citrandarin is also known as a "citsuma" merging citsuma with kumquat creates this hybrid's new name Citsumaquat™ .

How cold hardy is Citsumaquat? It's withstood 6*f. so far and will likely see even colder temperatures during this upcoming winter of 2009-2010 in USDA zone 7 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

How does Citsumaquat's fruit taste? My first fully ripened fruit tasted exactly like a 'Nagami' kumquat. As with all citrus, early fruiting may not be indicative of the fruit's true flavor so further taste trials are needed.

Will Citsumaquat be offered for sale? If all goes well Citsumaquat might be offered for sale on this website by 2011 or 2012.
